Automation Engineer (Japan)
Job Description

Reports to Japan Automation leader or Engineering leader, Implements, tests, troubleshoots and improve electronic automation and controls systems in manufacturing/production/operations processes to increase production quality, efficiency and volume. Checks control system schematics and specifications and uses software and testing equipment to diagnose and resolve system malfunctions. Develops and defines control system applications for various machinery and equipment using technologies or platforms such as ladder logic programming for programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human machine interfaces (HMIs), data control systems (DCSs), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA). Implement the initiation, organization, planning, control, change and close out of assigned programs in line with IDEF standards and project management processes. Implement the development and establishment of procedures and guidelines for daily operation of project team members and initiate initial preparation, execution and revision of the project plan. Serves as technical requirements engineer for operational teams. Works with the Commercial organization’s sales team to create profitable and sustained business growth through full commercial exploitation of SPX FLOW automation solutions, and through direct customer contact, competitor awareness, and national industry trends to provide structured and quantified input that ensures the Commercial organization continues to develop and provide its customers with a competitive, comprehensive and differentiated technology portfolio. Principle Duties And Responsibilities

- Interface with Engineering and Supply Chain to understand requirements and needs, ensuring solution fit business requirements and strategic vision. - Champion the Automation technology portfolio with customers, the technology sales team, and the N&H Japan sales team, developing and executing campaigns for existing and newly introduced technologies. - Coordinate with supply chain, engineering, quality, and safety. - Expert knowledge of P&IDs and instrumentation/control equipment preferred. - Professionals through Automation system design, procurement, qualification, and engineering documentation, Design Specifications, and bid packages - Ensures projects compliant with all regulatory requirements and ensuring corrective action is taken if out of compliance - Work with Supply Chain and project teams to translate solutions into technology direction. - Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products. - Analyzes technology trends, human capital needs, and market demand to plan projects. - Understands and drives the principles surrounding Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement and process management methodologies in the design for manufacturing of all product lines. - Drives cost reduction initiatives. - Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations. - Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies focused on continuous process improvement. - Leverage partnerships and build a network of effective relationships both internally and externally with business leaders and key customers.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Ability to work across a matrix organization to ensure lines of communications are open, and ties into the rest of the organization functionally and regionally. - Native Japanese language proficiency or N1 proficiency test. English language proficiency preferred. - Health, Safety & Environmental Awareness. - Legal Awareness, Contract & Claims Management - Automation and process development and deployment. - Decisive and able to make quick, yet calculated, decisions; experienced in and capable of accepting change. - Understands and drives the principles surrounding Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement and process management methodologies. - Able to engage diplomatically with excellent verbal and written communication, as well as platform presentation skills with a variety of audiences across all levels of the organization and externally. - Exhibits a strong ability to handle complexity, multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energy. - Ability to write and develop specifications for DCS, SCADA. - Experience creating GOT screen or similar products preferred. - Experience creating Excel VBA preferred. - Experience with MELSEC PLC or SIEMENS PLC or any other manufacturers of PLCs. - Experience with VFDs(Variable Frequency Drives, what is called “Inverter” in Japan) - Ability to understand control panels drawings preferred.

Education And Experience

- Bachelor’s Degree or Technical College in Engineering, Food or Chemical Technology, Electrical Engineering or related discipline. - Over 3 years’ experience in processing equipment, preferably Food & Beverage developing complex systems and broad Project Management experience in cross-functional teams is required. - Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Comfortable with frequent travel.
